Paying Utility Bills?

Operation Fuel provides emergency energy and utility assistance to households in Connecticut that are facing financial crisis.

Operation Fuel’s Winter Season closed on March 15, 2024. We will no longer be accepting applications for energy assistance.

If you’ve already completed an application:

Please log in with the same email and password you used to apply to check your application status.

If you have been approved for an oil or fuel delivery, please schedule the delivery as soon as possible. The delivery deadline is May 31, 2024.

Our water assistance programs are open. For help with a past due CT Water:

CT Water customers: Households whose income does not exceed 60% of the State Median Income Guidelines may qualify.

The Metropolitan District (MDC): Our MDC program is currently paused due to lack of funds. Please check back for updates as we seek additional resources.

Apply in Person

An Operation Fuel energy grant is not an entitlement to all Connecticut residents who fall within income guidelines.  

2-1-1 operates 24-hours-a-day, every day of the year, and TDD access is available

Operation Fuel serves households whose income does not exceed 75% of the State Median Income Guidelines, which include, but are not limited to, the elderly, disabled, working families, or individuals facing a financial crisis.

Types of Assistance

Year-Round Energy Assistance:

One-time grant per household, per year for deliverable fuel oil, natural gas, electricity, kerosene, wood, propane, pellets, and other energy sources.

Homeless Intervention and Prevention:

One-time grant per household for gas and utilities to stabilize families in crisis.

Water Assistance:

Shared Clean Energy Facility Program:

This program extends the benefits of clean energy to customers who otherwise may not be able to install clean energy generation for their home or business. To read more about it, click here.
